…will need…have the talent to

To be certain before committing.

A logical approach to problem solving.

A quiet, calm environment.

To avoid being rushed or pressured.

To eliminate risks.

To separate diligence and striving from playing and fun.

To derive ongoing value from your decisions.

Commit only when certain.

Identify the risks and work to eliminate them.

Work to take the pressure off yourselves and others.

Perform to deliver a standard that won't need "self promotion".

Work with and use logic rather than emotion / hype.

Maintain natural composure, even in emotional situations.

Provide consistent energy and emotions.

Meet obligations even if not enthusiastic or a deadline doesn't exist.

Extract more value from things because you don't lose interest quickly.

…are vulnerable to…have stress triggered by

Appearing negative when you identify all the risks and reasons not to do something.

Often ignoring the "psychology" and emotion of a situation.

Appearing slow or unenthusiastic when you don't act with a sense of urgency.

Missing opportunities due to lack of self-promotion.

Appearing to lack conviction or "attitude" when you don't commit absolutely.

Often not seeing or taking opportunities of the moment.

Needing to act on something when you're not certain.

Not seeing how you can mitigate the risks you foresee.

Having to respond off the cuff and in the moment without having time to think or prepare.

If you AVOID the Instinctive Drive to Improvise you may recognise this…

You walk out of the meeting exhausted and frustrated. Once again the "ideas guys" took the floor, ranting and raving about the possibilities getting everyone excited and inspired. But you know who will be left holding the baby. Fools rush in where angels fear to tread. Don't they know the value of being able to slow down and systematically go through the options? Never mind "possibility" whatever happened to good old-fashioned "reality"! You like to sit down and concentrate on what you're doing. Open plan offices were one of the worst inventions of the 21st century as far as you're concerned. You don't enjoy hearing about Sally's Saturday night exploits and frankly you couldn't care less whether John's son was picked for the rugby team or not. Why can't everyone not just shut up and get on with their work in peace.

If these guys have enough time to be talking about their social life and parenting ability they quite clearly don't have enough to do and you feel more than a little peeved that they don't offer to lighten your load. You don't have time to take a few minutes out for a laugh and a chat. It's not that you don't like having fun; you just like to knuckle down and get the work done. Then you can have fun.

You hate being pushed to complete what you need to do. People think that when you don't want to be rushed, it's because you want time to think things through. It's not completely true - you don't want to be rushed because you don't want to be rushed. All that rushing around is a bit scary, really. As far as you're concerned pressure leads to mistakes. You prefer to be quiet, serious, even keeled and logical and get the job done with minimal fuss and fanfare. You've probably been called a dark horse a few times especially at the Christmas Party when you started to dance on the pool tables. But people just misunderstand you, you're not the "party pooper" trying to puncture everyone's excitement and enthusiasm you're just a serious person. If you're at work you're seriously at work and if you're at play you seriously have fun! In addition you're not the corporate "wet blanket" either, often people can see you as being defeatist and negative (especially the Improvisers) but the truth is your gift is that you instinctively see the challenges of any given situation or idea. Which is an incredibly valuable skill to have.
