If you're driven by the Instinctive Drive to Authenticate™, you…

…will need…have the talent to

A congruent environment where what is promised or proclaimed actually happens.

To see how things work, preferably by personally experiencing them.

To be constructing things that produce tangible, essential and practical outcomes.

Loyalty to the spoken word.

To demonstrate skills, knowledge, attitude, etc.

Quality tools, equipment and resources.

Two-way, upfront literal communication and a candid environment.

To know what is essential.

To visualise the outcomes.

Always get personally involved.

Communicate openly, honestly and literally.

Deliver outcomes which are practical, durable and of high quality.

Have a strong sense of personal endurance.

Be loyal to a spoken commitment, regardless of subsequent developments, feelings and pressure.

Demonstrate congruency between words and actions.

Naturally use a tactile approach.

Function with an "anti-waste" nature, doing exactly what is required and focusing on the basics.

…are vulnerable to…have stress triggered by

Not reading the "unspoken" language (silence, pauses, physiology, facial expressions, emotion, innuendo, history, etc) which can lead to misunderstanding and insensitivity.

Translating literally when others expect you to read between the lines.

Stifling workflow because everything receives your personal touch.

Frequently going overboard on quality, paying attention to all components, even those that don't really matter.

Being blunt and offensive, which can be inappropriate and insensitive.

Often overlooking finesse and aesthetics when only paying attention to the basics and essentials.

Appearing to lack initiative when you perform exactly as requested.

Feeling useless or that your contribution is not valued.

When you see a gap between what is spoken and action actually taken.

Not having a clear picture of your role.

Perceiving your or others efforts as wasting time or resources.

If you're driven by the Instinctive Drive to Authenticate you may recognise this…

It's your turn to cook dinner. Your partner calls at 5.17pm, you know it's 5.17 because you notice the time on the microwave clock. They just want to check if there is anything they need to pick up for you before coming home. You ask how long they are going to be before they are home. They say 20 minutes. That means they will be arriving home at 5.37, which means you will put the pasta on at 5.27. At 6.18pm your partner walks through the door and soon thereafter is wearing the pasta not eating it.

To your Avoid Authenticate partner "20 minutes" is a guide, a rough indication of time depending on best guess current information. Something might come up between now and then that would change that but it means, "I'll be home in the next hour". To the Authenticate chef it means 20 minutes - not 19 minutes or 21 minutes and certainly not 60 minutes! And by the way if your partner had arrived at 5.27pm you would still be miffed because it's not what they said. It's not a value judgment about being late or early it's simple a matter of congruency - your partner did not do what they said they would do.

The Authenticate takes what is said literally and 20 minutes means 20 minutes. You are not being anal or difficult or precious it's just the way you are wired. This is an instinct for making things real for translating ideas into reality and what you see is what you get. The idea is "20 minutes" the reality is not and they feel betrayed.

You are often told to relax. Your penchant for the bottom line can result in you saying things that can be perceived as blunt or insensitive. But you just want to know where you stand and you hate being let down. If someone lies to you or doesn't do what they promise you won't forget it in a hurry and will probably never trust that person again. You are known for your quality control. You always meet your deadline; you deliver exactly what you say you're going to deliver. People can depend on that and they do. You're proud of your record.
